暑期已经过了将近一半的时间，同学们的文书进度如何了？在美国大学申请中，我们不仅要准备Personal Statement，俗称PS主文书，还要准备根据学校不同，题目不同，数量不同，字数要求也不同的Supplemental Essay补充文书。

常见的补充文书类型也有好几种，比如Why School、Why Major、Community Contribution、Activity、Creative Essay等等。

之前的内容里，棒呆已经分享了芝加哥大学更新的2023-2024年申请季补充文书题目，“不走寻常路”，非常“烧脑”，十分考验学生的趣味性和思辨能力。

下面，我们又整理了藤校耶鲁大学、康奈尔大学、达特茅斯学院已经公布的2024年申请季补充文书题目，并附上了每个题目的解析，希望能够对要申请这些学校的同学们有所帮助！

耶鲁大学补充文书

耶鲁大学的补充文书题目分为Short Answer Questions简答题和Essays必答文书两部分。Short Answer Questions是耶鲁大学文书的重要组成部分，短小精悍。而必答文书题目则会根据申请人选择的申请平台而略有不同。

概括来说，耶鲁大学的补充文书类型是：Why, Short Answer, Community, Oddball.

简答题

提交Coalition Application，Common Application或QuestBridge Application 的申请人需要回答以下简答题。

Students at Yale have time to explore their academic interests before committing to one or more major fields of study. Many students either modify their original academic direction or change their minds entirely. As of this moment, what academic areas seem to fit your interests or goals most comfortably? Please indicate up to three from the list provided.

解析：申请生要诚实地列举出自己感兴趣的学术兴趣方向。这对已经确定未来要学习什么专业的学生来说不是很难，但对尚没有明确专业方向的学生来说往往就变得有挑战性。也许同学们可以尝试来讲述自己的某一个兴趣探索的过程，通过这个过程来揭示自己到底看重什么，对什么产生了学术热情。若是还是没办法确定，觉得自己“什么方向都OK”，那么就试着在文书中保持好文理平衡。

解析：申请生只有200个单词的余地来回答这个问题。如果能够顺利回答出上一个问题，那么这个问题自然也能轻而易举的写出来。无论学生是列出一个或多个兴趣爱好，建议文书中表达的是一个关于个人求知欲探索的连贯内容。这道题是一个很好的展示机会，来向招生官证明学生的兴趣爱好方向与学生本人的密切联系，千万要好好写！

What is it about Yale that has led you to apply? (125 words or fewer)

解析：耶鲁大学希望了解学生对学校感兴趣的原因，这种原因不只是未来将在校园里接受高质量的教育，而是某个专业，或者某个项目真的让学生感到兴奋不已，必须要通过申请耶鲁去实现。申请生在写这篇文书时一定要确保谈论的是自己，谈论你的学术或职业目标以及未来耶鲁如何帮助你是想这些目标。耶鲁不想看到大学网站上浅显的摘要，而是想看到学生未来会参加哪些课程满足自己的学术兴趣，会参加哪些活动来丰富校园生活……

Coalition Application或Common Application平台申请人还需要回答以下简答题：

What inspires you?(200 characters or fewer)

解析：200个字符并不是很多，尤其是涉及到“灵感”这类比较广泛的概念。虽然没有太多的空间去讲述一个完整的故事，但是同学们却可以考虑根据个人的经历写一个具体的、令人难忘的答案。

If you could teach any college course, write a book, or create an original piece of art of any kind, what would it be?(200 characters or fewer)

解析：上一题问了申请生“什么激励了你”，这一题则问了“申请生能做什么，擅长什么？”这个回答没有正确或错误的区分，写下你感兴趣的主题即可，比如园艺、攀岩、烘焙等等。然后考虑通过授课/写书等形式与他人分享你的才艺。

Other than a family member, who is someone who has had a significant influence on you? What has been the impact of their influence? (200 characters or fewer)

解析：写这类回答，我们会建议申请生简洁地总结这个人的成就，将更多的字符空间留给自己，让招生官了解这个人对申请生的影响，申请看中什么，以及未来渴望成为什么样的人。同学们选择写的人可以是你当地社区的某个人——朋友、老师、社区领袖——或者是你还没有机会在现实生活中见到的人。也许是一位著名的科学家激励你追求你所选择的领域，也许艺术家或思想领袖改变了你对人类意义的理解……

What is something about you that is not included anywhere else in your application?(200 characters or fewer)

解析：拿到这样的简答题题目往往会不知道如何开始。深吸一口气先冷静下来，想想招生官为什么会提出这个问题。许多申请人看起来都很相似，但这篇回答写得好绝对能够让学生凭借自己的个性脱颖而出。所以可以利用这篇回答来分享自己的某种在其他申请材料里没体现出来的特质，比如很强的讽刺幽默感，或者是充满着艺术气息等等。

必答文书题

接下来是文书部分，提交Coalition Application或Common Application的申请人需要回答以下问题之一。

1. Reflect on a time you discussed an issue important to you with someone holding an opposing view. Why did you find the experience meaningful?(400 words or fewer)

解析：这一篇文书同样具有挑战性，但相信我们都曾以某种身份捍卫过我们的某种观念/信仰。同学们可以将回忆摊开来，找到自己与朋友、家人甚至只是熟人进行过的一次不舒服的谈话经历。你能够清楚地表达自己的观点吗？你从讨论中收获了什么？你是如何提出这个话题的？你们谈话的结果是什么？你不需要改变别人的想法（或者你自己的想法），你只需要表明你并不害怕与那些可能与你有不同意见的人沟通交流，向耶鲁招生官表明你乐于学习、倾听、分享和成长。

2. Reflect on your membership in a community to which you feel connected. Why is this community meaningful to you? You may define community however you like.(400 words or fewer)

解析：题目中的“一个让你感到有联系的社区”可以是任何东西：你的家庭，学校的俱乐部，舞蹈团，游戏社等等。而无论申请生选择什么社区，一定要定义自己的位置，对于社区成员来说，申请生是谁？加入这个社区对申请生的生活或身份有何影响？为什么有意义？在讲述个人经历时一定要具体，并尽量举例说明。

3. Reflect on an element of your personal experience that you feel will enrich your college. How has it shaped you?(400 words or fewer)

解析：这是一个开放式的文书题目。如果前两个文书题目都没有让申请生有动笔的欲望，那么这个将不限制你关注的领域。耶鲁大学想知道是什么让申请生成为了今天的你，这样东西未来将如何帮助申请生以独特的方式为耶鲁社区做出贡献。比如关于家乡、传统、文化、身份、种族或民族，你可以教给你的同学一些他们可能还不知道的东西吗？是什么影响了你的身份？你相信什么？你的世界观将如何为耶鲁大学社区带来一些有价值的东西？

康奈尔大学补充文书

在本科阶段，同学们可以申请康奈尔大学的农业和生命科学学院，建筑、艺术和规划学院，文理学院，SC Johnson 商学院，工程学院，人类生态学院，工业和劳动关系学院。

农业和生命科学学院

Required: Why are you drawn to studying the major you have selected? Please discuss how your interests and related experiences have influenced your choice. How will an education from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Cornell University specifically serve to support your learning, growth, and the pursuit of your goals?

解析：学院给出的文书写作提示非常的具体，希望了解申请生有具体的理由和实践经验来说明自己为什么选择在农业和生命科学学院学习课程。为什么不能在更普遍的文科环境中追求个人的兴趣呢？写作时可以更明确点。

Optional: At Cornell CALS, we aim to leave the world better than we found it, so we seek those who are not simply driven to master their discipline, but who are also passionate about doing so to serve the public good. Please elaborate on an activity or experience you have had that made an impact on a community that is important to you. 解析：学校希望了解申请生参与的某项活动或经历，该活动或经历对于学生所关心的社区产生了积极的影响。这段活动或经历也不一定非要与农业和生命科学相关，可以让思路打开。虽然这道题是可选的，但是申请生为什么要放弃向招生官提供更多有关你自己信息的机会呢？

Optional: Cornell CALS is dedicated to purpose-driven study of the agricultural, life, environmental, and social sciences and welcomes students with interests that span a wide variety of disciplines. 解析：这也是一篇可选的文书题目，但要是申请生对研究农业和生命科学感兴趣，就没有理由视而不见。申请生可以与招生官分享自己在该领域的任何经验，包含的个人细节和轶事自然越多越好。

建筑、艺术和规划学院

How do your interests directly connect with your intended major at the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP)? Why architecture (B.Arch), art (BFA), or urban and regional studies (URS)? B. Arch applicants, please provide an example of how a creative project or passion sparks your motivation to pursue a 5-year professional degree program. BFA applicants may want to to consider how they could integrate a range of interests and available resources at Cornell into a coherent art practice. URS students may want to emphasize their enthusiasm and depth of interest in the study of urban and regional issues.

Your response should convey how your interests align with the school to which you are applying within the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management or the Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration).

解析：在写这篇文书时，申请生更多的是要展示自己的适合度，展示个人目标、兴趣与学校项目或资源的一致性。换句话说，在商业方面你关心什么问题，为什么它们对你很重要，以及康奈尔大学的哪个项目将帮助你解决这些问题并实现你的目标？

申请工程学院的申请生都需要写两篇补充文书，对于Essay 1，所有的申请生都要写；对于Essay 2，则可以在问题A/B中进行选择。

Essay 1: Required response. (250-word limit)

If you are unsure what specific engineering field you would like to study, describe how your general interest in engineering most directly connects with Cornell Engineering. It may be helpful to concentrate on one or two things that you are most excited about.

Essay 2: Choose either Question A and Question B. (250-word limit)

Question A: Describe an engineering problem that impacts your local community. This could be your school, neighborhood, town, region, or a group you identify with. Describe one to three things you might do as an engineer to solve the problem.

达特茅斯学院要求申请人对以下三个附加文书题目进行简短的回答。概括来说，达特茅斯学院的补充文书类型是：Why, Oddball, Community.
