这不，最近2023年U.S.News排名#10的西北大学就公布了补充文书题目，且强调“将不再强制要求学生提交主文书！”八大藤校里，普林斯顿大学也终于公开了新申请季的补充文书题目！其他藤校的补充文书均已更新！

西北大学文书要求发生新变化

可以看到，官网上，西北大学已经将对新生申请的Common Application或Apply Coalition with Scoir的主文书要求改为“OPTIONAL”可选的。学校将不再强制要求申请人完成主文书，而是要求学生完成由西北大学设计的补充文书题目。

西北大学表示，这些特别设计的补充文书题目可以帮助招生官了解学生在高中阶段的经历，并预测学生未来会成为哪种类型的西北大学学生。“补充文书题目涉及到学校在构建Class Of 2028西北大学班级群体至关重要的领域。”

当然，可能学校的补充文书题目没有完全反映出申请生的品质，西北也欢迎学生在Common Application中提交个人陈述或额外信息。但这完全取决于申请者的意愿，并不是必须的。

西北大学关于文书的调整，既说明了学校越来越看重申请生与学校的匹配度，这对同学们的补充文书写作提出了新要求！也说明了当主文书题目被研究多年，ChatGPT等人工智能手段层出不穷，大学也要作出应对，考虑什么样的文书是ChatGPT写不出来的！

自然而然地，当文书变得越来越难写，一份写得精彩，能写出个人特色的文书将更容易拉开申请生之间的差距，而这恰好也是棒呆顾问的强项！

另外，棒呆顾问也建议，西北大学虽然明确表示了相较于主文书，学校更看重补充文书，但是若申请生有时间，主文书也确实写了自己最愿意分享的故事，该提交给西北大学还是要提交！毕竟这就和标化可选一样，总不能“别人都有你没有”！

Common App/Coalition必答题

We want to be sure we’re considering your application in the context of your personal experiences: What aspects of your background, your identity, or your school, community, and/or household settings have most shaped how you see yourself engaging in Northwestern’s community, be it academically, extracurricularly, culturally, politically, socially, or otherwise? (300 words or fewer.)

1.Painting “The Rock” is a tradition at Northwestern that invites all forms of expression—students promote campus events or extracurricular groups, support social or activist causes, show their Wildcat spirit (what we call “Purple Pride”), celebrate their culture, and more. 可以发现，普林斯顿大学新增了一篇“你的声音”部分的第一篇500字以内的文书，希望了解申请人的生活经历，以及这些经历如何塑造了申请生，未来将发挥出什么样的作用。

这与美国最高法院判决的“大学在考虑学生的种族时，不能浮于表面，而是要根据学生的个人经历去做选择，非种族本身”不谋而合。

另外还值得注意的是，普林斯顿大学要求学生申请的时候提交一份“Graded Written Paper”作为申请材料的一部分。

通过这份评分过的写作文章，学校可以评估出学生在学术领域的书面表达能力，这将有助于进一步地了解申请生，判断学生的潜在能力。
